Voltage at the energizer terminal
Should match the energizer's rated output. Test before connecting the fence line.
Voltage at the midpoint of the fence
A large drop from the terminal reading points to a bad joint or heavy vegetation contact.
Voltage at the far end of the fence
The far end of a long single run naturally reads lower — confirm it's still enough to deter your target animal.
Grounding test
Short the live fence to earth about 30m from the energizer with a metal rod — voltage should drop sharply, confirming the earth system works.
Gate / access point continuity
Confirm each gate handle makes a solid connection when closed and the fence stays live across it.
Vegetation clearance
No grass, branches, or crops touching any live wire — contact silently drains the fence.
Joints and clamps
Visually check every joint clamp and connector is tight and corrosion-free.
Warning signs posted
Electric fence warning signs at gates and at regular intervals along public-facing sections.
