Wiring a new fence

1. 1Run the lead-out cable. Connect insulated lead-out cable (2.5mm Earth & Fence cable) from the energizer's fence terminal to the first strand nearest the energizer, keeping it clear of the ground and anything metal it could touch.
2. 2Connect each strand. Join strands at corners, gates, and ends with aluminium joint clamps — a loose or corroded connection is the most common cause of a weak fence.
3. 3Place the earth rods. About 1 earth rod per 1.5 joules of stored energy, minimum 3 rods — more in dry or sandy soil.
4. 4Bond the earth system. Link the earth rods together and back to the energizer's earth terminal with earth cable and earth clamps — this return path is what completes the shock circuit through the animal.
5. 5Wire the gate cutoff. Fit a gate handle so the fence stays live across gates and access points, without a permanent hard connection you'd have to cut every time you open them.
6. 6Test before relying on it. Check voltage at the terminal, midpoint, and far end, and confirm the earth system before letting animals near the fence.
